Driver’s Ed For Dog Owners

Driver’s Ed For Dog Owners for dog owners who drive with their pet in the car. Animals can be a distraction while you are driving and that is why you should read these good pet safety tips before you get into your car with your dog again.

(NAPSI)-When dog owners are behind the wheel of a car, their dog can drive them to distraction. And that, it appears, can lead to dangerous situations for both.

That’s one of the key findings of a recent survey that examined what happens when dog owners take their dog with them when they hit the road.

Doggie Distractions

The survey was conducted by North America’s largest motoring and leisure travel organization–AAA–and Kurgo, which makes products specifically designed for traveling with your dog. The survey found that 31 percent of respondents admit to being distracted by their dog while driving, while 59 percent say they have participated in at least one distracting behavior while driving with their dog.

More than half–55 percent– have petted their dog while driving, and one in five–21 percent–allowed their dog to sit in their lap.

Other distracting behaviors that drivers admitted to include giving food and water to their dog (7 percent) and playing with their dog (5 percent). These kinds of behaviors can distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that looking away from the road for only two seconds doubles your risk of being in a crash.

Unrestrained Risks

Unrestrained dogs can be a danger to a driver, a passenger and to the dog itself. An overwhelming 80 percent of respondents stated that they have driven with their pets on a variety of car trips including day trips, local errands and leisure trips or to work, the pet store or dog parks. However, only 17 percent use any form of pet restraint system when driving with their dog.

Safety Tips

To increase driver and pet safety, here are some tips:

• The use of a pet restraint system, such as those available from Kurgo (www.kurgo.com), can aid in limiting distractions and help protect your pet.

• Keep your dog in the backseat, as you would a child. Being in the front seat can expose a dog to being injured if the car’s air bag is deployed.

• Remember, a dog near a driver can interfere with both a driver’s physical and mental ability to operate the vehicle. When a dog blocks the brake pedals or takes the driver’s attention off the road, it has become a safety hazard.

To learn more about keeping yourself and your dog safer while driving, visit www.AAA.com or www.kurgo.com. Pet owners who want to take their pet on a longer trip can find all the information they need to make their vacation easier and safer in “Traveling with Your Pet: The AAA PetBook,” which includes pet-friendly, AAA Approved property listings and advice on traveling with pets. Protect Your Ride For Best Resale Value

Protect your ride for best resale value so when you sell it you can get top dollar for it. Read these simple how to keep your car in great condition tips.

(ARA) – This summer doesn’t have to be a scorcher – for your health or your car’s resale value. It’s hard enough keeping the sand and dogs off your leather seats, let alone remembering to wear sunscreen during those afternoon cruises. And while you might not hear praise for all of that hard work, it’s important to keep maintaining your car’s appearance – and protecting your health – top of mind during the peak car buying and selling season.

“It’s important to keep your car or truck in top physical condition,” says Jack Nerad, executive editorial director of Kelley Blue Book and kbb.com. “Late summer to mid fall is peak car-buying season, and those planning to purchase a used vehicle will look at everything from the state of the fabrics to sun damage to the condition of the paint. The sun can cause more damage than even the wind or rain.”

Nerad advises car owners to take the little steps that will yield big results in the long-run. “If you’re trying to get the most re-sale value for your car or truck, it’s more than worth your time and investment to protect both the inside and outside of your vehicle,” he says.

Add mileage to your car – and you, too.

With record-breaking temperatures across the U.S. this summer, keeping your car cool and blocking harmful UV rays is as vital as ever. Many drivers aren’t aware that windshields are typically the only window equipped with the capacity to block out harmful UVA rays. That means every passenger in a car is vulnerable to severe sun exposure. A simple solution is to install window films – they may only require a one-time application, but they achieve long-lasting results. By reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the interior of your car, you not only protect your health, but you preserve the condition of your vehicle’s interior.

What about that spiffy paint job?

The sun doesn’t have to worry about its ability to shine – but your car does. You may think you’re doing all the right things to maintain its glistening coat, like parking in the farthest corner of the lot, cautiously opening your car door, or minimizing recreational off-road adventures. But how do you combat stealthy predators like Mother Nature from preying on your ride? Paint protection films are a sleek, but subtle means of outfitting your car with UV protectants that help keep its exterior from fading. Once applied, the enhanced surface will be virtually immune to everyday concerns like pebbles, debris, bug acids and other harsh conditions. Ensuring that your car’s paint stays looking fresh means its resale potential stays high when the time comes.

Interior stains are a turn off for buyers.

Nothing can predict the bump in the road that sends your coffee flying, but wouldn’t it be nice not to worry about spillage stains? Fabric protectors hold off spills before they sink in by keeping liquids on top of the surface. “The appearance of your vehicle, both inside and out, is crucial when trying to sell your automobile,” says Nerad. “Potential buyers will take one look at the vehicle, and if it’s not in peak shape visually, there’s no chance of getting top dollar for it.”

With these measures in mind, car care can go from a backseat chore to the shotgun rider that steers you and your car to a healthy, brighter and resale-ready future. For a one-stop shop of car-protecting products visit 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division and view its 3M Automotive Window Films, Scotchgard Paint Protection Films, and Scotchgard Protectors. Remember, preserving your vehicle will pay off in the long run.

E-Z-GO 2Five Eco-Friendly Transportation Just Got Easier

Eco-Friendly Transportation Just Got Easier with the E-Z-Go 2 Five a new idea in Eco-friendly transportaion. Check out this new electric car.

(NAPSI)-On-the-go families are finding a new and eco-friendly way to get where they need to go.

The solution is a vehicle known as the E-Z-GO 2Five. The 2Five is a street-legal vehicle designed for neighborhoods and public roads with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. The car has a maximum speed of 25 mph and features a 48-volt AC electric powertrain, four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes and an onboard charger.

The convenient, fun and environmentally sound transportation alternative can be a great option for neighborhood road travel, running errands and for those who lead an on-the-go lifestyle.

The 2Five meets or exceeds standards mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as well as additional standards of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for low-speed vehicles, or LSVs. LSVs must have a top speed of no more than 25 mph and be equipped with certain additional features including a windshield, seat belts, mirrors and headlights and taillights.

The vehicles are issued a vehicle identification number, like any automobile, and can be titled and operated by licensed drivers on most public roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less.

The car includes four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes for braking and vehicle control. The vehicle’s dash includes a digital speedometer and odometer, cup holders, a locking glove box and an AC outlet for recharging mobile devices.

In addition, a “rabbit/turtle” switch on the dash conveniently limits the 2Five’s speed to 14 mph when conditions require lower speeds, or to prevent turf damage in instances when the 2Five is being used as a golf vehicle.

Eco-friendly features include a 48-volt electric powertrain that uses AC current, which lowers vehicle noise, eliminates hazardous fuel and oil and uses less energy. Regenerative braking recharges the batteries whenever the vehicle’s brakes are applied. An on-board solid-state battery charger makes recharging as convenient as plugging into a household power outlet. The foam seating is made of 100 percent recycled material.

Properly Inflated Tires Can Save You Money and Help The Environment

Yes, properly inflated tires can help to save you money and help the environment. Going green is important for everyone and so is saving money.

Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) are helpful, but you should still check your tire’s air pressure monthly. Tire care is important to the safety of your vehicle and your passengers.

(NewsUSA) – Tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) are now a standard safety feature on all new cars in the United States. TPMS automatically monitors tire pressure and alerts the driver when the pressure in one or more tires becomes significantly low — and potentially dangerous.

Still, conducting monthly tire pressure checks is one of the smartest driving moves you can make. Not only are properly inflated tires critical for vehicle safety, they also increase fuel efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Increase Fuel Efficiency

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 3.56 million gallons of gasoline are wasted every day due to incorrectly inflated tires. The good news is you can improve gas mileage just by keeping tires inflated to the proper pressure. In fact, one study showed that if gas costs per gallon, proper tire pressure can save you up to 2 at the pump each year.

Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the typical car in the United States releases more than five tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. By keeping tires properly inflated, you can reduce your vehicle’s “carbon footprint” by an average of 327 pounds per year. Because a tire can lose up to half its air pressure without appearing to be under-inflated, you cannot rely on a tire’s appearance to determine whether it’s properly inflated or not.

Tire Pressure Tips From Schrader

To help ensure your tires are properly inflated year-round, here are some tips from Schrader, the inventor and leading manufacturer of TPMS worldwide:

* Check the pressure in all four tires — and the spare tire — monthly with an accurate tire gauge, and always check tire pressure before a long road trip.

* The “right” pressure for your vehicle’s tires can be found in the vehicle’s manual or on the driver door edge, glove box or fuel door. Do not follow the information listed on the tire sidewall.

* For the most accurate reading, tires should be checked when they are cool.

* Always remember to replace the valve cap.

For more tips, including what to do if the TPMS symbol illuminates on your dashboard, visit TPMSMadeSimple.com. Schrader created the site to help educate drivers about TPMS and the importance of proper tire pressure.

Greener Pastures: P2O Plants Convert Farm Waste to Fuel

Greener Pastures: P2O Plants Convert Farm Waste to Fuel

(NewsUSA) – Don’t let those fields of green confuse you — most farming isn’t environmentally friendly. From animal waste to pesticides and fertilizers to plastic trash, farms take their toll on Mother Earth. But some companies are looking to help farms clean up — and green up — their act.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the total amount of plastics in municipal solid waste in the U.S. was almost 31 million tons, or 12.1 percent of total municipal solid waste generation in 2007. Farms are a major contributor. Farms use plastic barrels and silage bags, many of which end up in landfills.

The greenhouse sector, while often considered a clean industry, uses plastic in the form of nursery pots, plastic trays and polyethylene film. Some growers are looking to biodegradable plastic alternatives, such as peat moss or coconut, bamboo, rice, straw or corn fibers. But none of the available alternatives completely solve the problem — some materials are visually unattractive, while others are prone to cracking or mold growth. And many come in plastic packaging.

Farmers can do one of three things with their used plastic. They can reuse it, though most do not, due to health concerns. Farmers can also recycle some of their plastic, but collecting and transporting the plastic to a recycling center can prove problematic. And now, farmers can turn their agricultural waste plastic into fuel.

JBI Inc., a global technology company trading on the OTC market with the stock symbol JBII, has developed a way to break down plastic molecules into an oil similar to diesel fuel. The process, called Plastic 2 Oil (P2O), extracts about a liter of oil for each kilogram of plastic processed, and each P2O facility will be able to process up to 20 tons of scrap plastic per day. Even better, a gas byproduct created by the P2O process provides all of the energy needed to convert plastics into oil, eliminating energy costs.

JBI is looking for people with manufacturing and farming facilities not running at full capacity to convert into P2O factories. Americans allowing P2O factories to run on their property will receive enough extra fuel from the P2O process to run their household or any on-site business operations.

A Controversial Cayenne – the Cayenne S Hybrid

A Controversial Cayenne – the Cayenne S Hybrid

The Cayenne, Porsche’s lone V8-equipped SUV, isn’t exactly Porsche purist-approved. The 2011 Cayenne S Hybrid, debuting at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, only adds to the Cayenne’s controversial legacy. But why cry foul? An examination of the Cayenne S Hybrid shows that its technophobic nature is just what Porsche needs.

Sharing a platform with the Audi Q7, an ICE with the Audi S4, and closely related to the Volkswagen Touareg hybrid, the crossover Cayenne S Hybrid is the product of cross-corporate ingenuity, and Porsche’s first foray into the hybrid scene.

The Cayenne S Hybrid is a parallel full hybrid, distinctly different from demure cousins like the Toyota Prius. It mates a direct-injected, 3.0-liter DOHC V6 to a 47-hp electric motor/starter/generator powered by a 240-cell NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery pack, weighing a meager 152 pounds and producing a peak 288 volts. The entire powertrain provides 380 bhp and 427 lb-feet of torque. The battery pack fits in the former spare-tire well. An eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, with two overdrive gears, is a subtle snub to new-fangled CVTs.

For an overseer, Porsche installed an brain called the Hybrid Manager. The Hybrid Manager coordinates the power sources to create one seamless control system. The Hybrid Manager can reengage the ICE in a mere 0.3 seconds.

How capable is this system? Unsurprisingly, Porsche’s engineers crafted a phenomenal machine. With a top speed of 150 mph, the Cayenne is no soccer mom’s recreational vehicle, and it has a respectable 0-60 sprint at 6.1 seconds.

Porsche adds eco-friendliness to the Cayenne’s elegant performance. Achieving an EPA estimated 24 mpg (combined) is a gargantuan leap from the 13/19 mpg of the past Cayenne S. Porsche engineers equipped the Cayenne with “sailing,” which allows coasting up to 97 mph using only electric power. The Cayenne, driven by a reserved driver, can travel on all-electric power up to 31-40 mph. And, like most hybrids, the Cayenne employs regenerative braking and a stop/start ICE function. Two power modes, E-power (all-electric) and E-boost (complementary electric boost) complete the package.

How does this hybrid hulk handle? With an independent double wishbone front suspension, independent multilink rear suspension, and outfitted with Porsche’s baby of an AWD system, the Cayenne S Hybrid handles seamlessly. It is neither rollicking nor feisty, but it does deliver a creamy smooth ride and impeccable handling.

The interior is lavishly strewn with luxurious features, including:

• HD infotainment interface;

• Bluetooth/USB capability;

• Adaptive cruise control;

• Navigation system;

• 16-speaker, surround-sound audio system with rear DVD display;

• Rear-view park assist.

The Cayenne S Hybrid features a cornucopia of front and rear airbags, 4-wheel ABS, braking assist, sturdy A-pillars, traction control, stability control and a TPMS, all to protect its 4,398-pound body.

Will it sell? The hybrid is only expected to be 5-10% of U.S. Cayenne sales. But that isn’t the point. The hybrid is a poster child, meaning that fewer decibels do not mean tedium, efficiency does not mean lack of performance, and Porsche still means peak performance.

RV Travel and Road Trip Tips

RV travel…get road trip tips. This year Celebrate 100 Years Of RV’ing: Stress-Free RV Traveling. Find out how to make your RV road trip stress free so you can enjoy your RV vacation.

(NAPSI)-This year marks the 100th anniversary of RV’ing and there is no better way to help celebrate the RV’s centennial than by taking a family road trip. With fuel prices holding steady, traveling by RV is more affordable than ever. According to the Recreational Vehicle Rental Association, many RV models allow a family of four to save up to 57 percent on vacation costs such as airfare, lodging, baggage checking and meals.

RV’ers are also some of the greenest vacationers out there- research shows that RV vacations have lower CO2 emission levels than airline, rental car and hotel vacations.

Before you hit the road, follow these five easy steps to plan your perfect RV adventure:

Plan Your Journey In Advance:

Lessen your stress on the drive by knowing where you’re going. Whether you take the scenic route or travel by freeway, map out your route in advance with software such as Microsoft Streets & Trips. You can plot your course, determine your travel time and estimate your fuel expenses before you even leave the house. You can also plot out a comprehensive list of restaurants, gas stations, attractions and other points of interest along the way.

Proper Maintenance Is Key:

A quick once-over of the RV will save you the headache of getting stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Before you leave, be sure to check the fluids and make sure the air pressure in your tires is at the recommended levels. Nothing can throw a monkey wrench in your travel plans faster than mechanical problems.

Reserve Your Spot In Advance:

Your RV neighbors may have booked their parking spots months in advance, so be sure to call ahead to reserve a spot. You’ll save time, fuel and the stress of having to drive around to find last-minute accommodations.

Preparation Is Essential:

Make a list and check it twice because preparation is crucial while on the road. Stocking up for the trip in advance will help you maintain a healthy and consistent diet, while steering away from unnecessary impromptu purchases. Purchase groceries at your local supermarket to avoid stopping for fast food. Prior to leaving, make sure your RV’s emergency kit is stocked and you have plenty of water.

Avoid The Dreaded “Are we there yet?” Question:

Show them where they are along the way with Microsoft Streets & Trips with GPS Locator so they can see exactly how far you’ve traveled and how long each leg of the trip will take. The product can also help keep you on track with spoken directions, automatic rerouting and large on-screen directions.

Vehicle Maintenance and Car-pooling Go Hand In Hand

Vehicle maintenance and car-pooling go hand in hand, so be sure to complete your car maintenance so your car-pooling is as safe as can be. Take a look at these car care tips and check Fram and Prestone websites.

(NC)—For many parents, car-pooling to school is the perfect blend of financial and environmental responsibility. But given that you will be toting around other people’s loved ones as well as your own, the importance of a well-maintained, reliable vehicle is multiplied.

Here are some things you should do to prepare your car for its carpooling duties:

Check Your Fluids.

Make it a habit to check your fluid levels once per month – particularly the level and condition of your antifreeze/coolant. It’s not hard to “top off”; just use as recommended – Prestone Long Life Premixed Antifreeze/coolant is for all makes and models of cars and light duty trucks. Your preventative maintenance could help you avoid an overheated engine.

Visit your trusted mechanic for a vehicle inspection. They can alert you to any potential problems, and fix those that are necessary.

Get An Oil Change.

With carpooling schedules, the miles on your car will likely increase. If you have an older car with many miles, consider using the Fram High Mileage oil filter. It has a special time released gel additive that helps reduce engine wear by maintaining oil viscosity, neutralizing acids and keeping engine components cleaner.

Be Prepared.

As the weather gets colder, make sure your vehicle is stocked with ice-fighting products like Prestone Deicer Windshield Washer Fluid with dirt blocker. The night before a frost or snow, spray your windshield with Prestone Ice and Frost Shield Vehicle GlassTreatment to reduce the need for scraping.

Play It Safe.

Always keep an emergency kit and cell phone in your car in case of emergencies. As the weather gets colder, have extra blankets and warm clothes on hand, along with bottled water and snacks. If needed, these items can help keep you and your passengers safe until help arrives.

More information on this topic can be found online at www.fram.com and www.prestone.com.
